Some word puzzles

but NOT for showcasing coding experience

🎄Playable Waywords-style puzzle: Nos4a2

Search the grid for words that relate to the book / TV series Nos4a2 (created by Joe Hill), available on Netflix. If you are having trouble finding all the words, just drag the mouse all over the grid and it will reveal the missing letters.

Code

The game has been coded with the help of ChatGPT. I’m using Rough.js to create a beautiful hand-drawn look. The basic structure (word list, word placements, filler letters) are designed by me. Also, the colours (reds) are thoughtfully chosen. Wink wink.

It took quite a few rounds to get the game to work roughly the way I wanted it to:

  • By default, Rough.js draws randomly after every mouse event. I wanted the grid to stay static.
  • I wanted to make a counter to keep track of how many words are left to be found.
  • First, the game would allow selecting substrings and counted each as a new word. Now it requires selecting a word from start to finish before it’s marked as green and counted as a found word.
  • I wanted to add a popup box when the game is finished.

😝 Playable Keysmash-style puzzle: Say a!

The page has an English and a Finnish puzzle. The Netflix Puzzled’s Keysmash shows consonants; I wanted to look for words with just the vowel ‘a’.

Code

The game has been coded with the help of ChatGPT. To the original draft I added jumping from input field to the next one after solving a word, and disabling each game after solving (either by using hints or guessing correctly).

🏡Drawn Bonza-style puzzle: Gabby’s Dollhouse

My hand-drawing (made on Procreate on iPad) converted to a more polished image using ChatGPT. The coding of bonza-style puzzle turned out to be quite tricky so I opted for showing the basic design instead of a playable puzzle.
